Housed in a spruced-up former George Webb's, the atmosphere of the cafe is casual, warm and inviting; daytime is bright and bustling while nighttime winds down to a mellow, relaxed mood. Plenty of plants, warm colors, funky artwork, and soft lighting dominate the decor. Sit at a table in the window, hide out in the back with your paramour, or park it at the lunch counter if you're looking to commune with your fellow 9-to-5ers, saucy waitresses, and the local color.
In February of 2004, LuLu expanded into the former second-hand bookstore next door, more than tripling the number of seats and featuring a 16 stool bar. The bar expands on the warm, cozy, casual atmosphere of the cafe to offer a lively and spacious nighttime hang-out. With big front windows that open onto KK & Howell Avenues on warm days and nights, the environment of Bar LuLu is very urban and contemporary, contrasted by the 1950s supper club-style chairs and junk-sale floor and swag lamps.
Chalkboard menus announce the specials of the week. While the menu offers mostly meat-based sandwiches and salads, a couple of vegetarian items are featured regularly as well as frequent meat-free specials. Soups change daily with seafood or vegetarian soups featured on Fridays. A variety of local micro brews and off-beat wines are offered to compliment your meal. A selection of top shelf liquor provides for some fun, specialty cocktails as well.
